A gym kept taking payments after the cancellation. Two letters stopped it.
The membership was cancelled in writing and confirmed by email. The direct debit carried on for three more months. This is what was sent.
The plan we used
- 01 A cancellation and refund demand
Quoting their own confirmation email back to them, with the dates of every payment taken after it.
Day 1 - 02 Sent with a 14-day deadline
To the address named in the contract for notices, not the one on the website.
Day 1 - 03 One check-in: did they reply?
No reply.
Day 8 - 04 A final notice before the ombudsman
Named the trader’s ombudsman and the filing date.
Day 14 - 05 Payments stopped and refunded
All three payments were returned and the membership was confirmed closed.
Day 19
Quoting their own confirmation email. Once the cancellation was undeniable in writing, the argument was about the refund only, and that moved quickly.
